Fire Retardant

Aluminum hydroxide is considered the world's most important mineral flame retardant. It is halogen-free and environmentally friendly.

Aluminum hydroxide
  • Easy to mix in

  • Highly flame retardant (water splitting at 200 °C)

  • Low hardness 3

  • Density 2.4 g/cm3

  • High whiteness (Y color value >94)

  • Coefficient of thermal expansion 15*10-6K-1 (at 20 - 300 °C)

Technical data:
Chemical composition: Al(OH)3 99.6 %, Fe2O3 0.01 %, SiO2 0.008 %, Na2O 0.32 %
Humidity: 0.15 %.
Grain size: Average grain size 1.0 μm + 325 mesh < 0.1 %.
Bulk density (kg·m−3): (loose) 0.25, (packed) 0.6
Oil count: 59 ml/100 g
Whiteness: 96 %
pH value (Mixture for pH measurement 30 % flame retardant in water, at room temperature): 9 - 10
Specific gravity: 2.42
Refractive index: 1.57
Hardness (Mohs): 3

Application:
As a flame retardant for epoxy resins (casting and laminating resins, gel coats).

Addition rates:
25-50 % by weight (25 % in laminates, up to 50 % in topcoats). Preliminary tests for the specific application are recommended.

Structure of the laminate in the film:
1) 8 layers of glass fabric tape 220 g/m2 (Art. No. 2001131)
2) laminating resin epoxy resin L + hardener S + 25 % aluminum hydroxide
